ETHEL M. REEKS DEXTER – Ethel (McFarland) Reeks, 78, died unexpectedly September 10, 2005 at Maryville Health Care and Rehab Center in Tennessee. She was born March 13, 1927 in Corinna a daughter of Norris and Orilla (Knowles) McFarland. Ethel attended Corinna Union Academy and schools in Massachusetts. She was predeceased by her husband Reginald on December 29, 1999. She was also predeceased by her sisters Adella McFarland, Dorothy McFarland, Marion McFarland, Inez McFarland White, Ella McFarland Alley, mother-in-law, Hazel Reeks and brother-in-law, Leonard Reeks. Ethel is survived by a son Donald and wife Marie of Levant; 2 daughters, Sheila Reeks O’Brien and husband Kevin of Biloxi, Mississippi, Regina Reeks Utter and husband Ronald of Madisonville, Tennessee; a brother, Fred McFarland of Corinna; and a sister, Grace Larsen and husband Spencer of Newport; 8 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews in Newport, Plymouth, Waterville, Fairfield, Augusta, Litchfield, and Presque Isle; and a nephew in California; as well as great nieces and nephews. She will be remembered by a special niece and husband, Debra and Greg Lovley of Newport; as well as a dear friend which was like a sister, Marilyn Wintle of Dexter. There were also many camping friends at Penobscot Valley Campgrounds, with whom Ethel and Reggie enjoyed being with for many days of fun and games. As Ethel has passed away out of state, a graveside committal service will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Dexter at a later date. Ethel’s daughter Sheila and family have recently survived Hurricane Katrina in Biloxi, Mississippi, but have lost their home and belongings. In lieu of flowers and in memory of Ethel, they family asks that donations be made to assist her daughter’s family.
