Obituary
Mrs. Viola J. Watson died Tuesday morning at the home of her sister, Mrs. Ellen Whittemore, Spring street, after months of intense suffering, aged 74 years, 8 months. The funeral was held at the Free Baptist church this afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. J. L. Sanders, the pastor, assisted by Rev. A. G. Hill of Garland, officiating. The Eastern Gazette 6-23-1904, p.5 Mrs. Viola J. Watson. Mrs. Viola Watson died in Dexter, Me., June 21, 1904, after an illness of one year. She was born in East Readfield, Me., Nov. 7, 1829, where she received her early education. This was supplemented by a course in the High School of Dexter, whither she moved with her parents at the age of fifteen. After her school days she became a very successeful teacher for several years, at the same time doing some literary work as she bad opportunity; but being always of a retiring nature, very little is known of her early writings. She was married to Geo. E. Watson of Dexter, Oct. 12, 1851, and by this union gave birth to two children, both of whom died several years ago. Her funeral was held in the Free Baptist church Thursday afternoon, and the music, profusion of flowers and sympathetic words contributed to the impressiveness of the occasion.
