Obituary
Hiram G. Judkins The many friends of Hiram G. Judkins were pained to learn of his death which occurred at his home on Maple street Tuesday morning last. He had been sick but a short time but the serious nature of the disease, pneumonia, made it doubtful from the beginning if he would at his great age recover. Hiram G. Judkins was born in Monmouth Sept. 20, 1815, and lived there during his youth. In starting out for himself he first went to Gardiner where he remained for a time and then went to Boston where he was engaged in a wholesale grocery store for a year or two. Returning to Monmouth he for several years carried on a farm and later opened a general store there, conducting it until 1878 when be came to Dexter where he has since resided. He was for some years purchasing agent for the Dexter Co-operative store and also for some time did a large business purchasing produce and shipping it to Boston. For the past 15 years he spent his summers at Old Orchard, where he had a cottage, and there dealt largely in butter, eggs and cream, supplying many of he hotels there. Mr. Judkins was a remarkably clear headed and able business man and maintained his faculties to the close. Erect and bright one could hardly realize he had reached his 89th year. He was a pleasant, genial man and made many warm friends who will learn of his death with sorrow and sympathize with the afflicted family. He leaves a widow; one son, Wesley H. Judkins, treasurer of the Dexter Savings Bank, and one daughter, the wife of Dr. C. M. Foss. The funeral service will be at the house this afternoon at 4 o'clock, Rev. B. G. Seaboyer, assisted by Revs. W. H. Gould and J. G. Fisher, officiating. The burial will be at Monmouth.
