Obituary
MISS EUNICE M. HOYT Funeral services for Miss Eunice M. Hoyt were held Friday at the Crosby Funeral Home in Dexter. The Rev. Joseph M. Clair of the Methodist Church officiated. Bearers were: Linwood Haseltine, Clyde Hemenway, Harry Dore, Kenneth Brasier, Maynard Prescott and Charles Crawford. Her body was placed in the tomb to be buried later in Ferndale cemetery in Ripley beside her brother, the Rev. Arthur E. Hoyt, whose untimely death by drowning, occurred 24 years ago. She died April 2 in Dexter after a long illness. Born in Ripley 71 years ago, she was a member of the Ripley Methodist Church for over 50 years. She also belonged to the Ripley Ladies' Aid, Dexter Grange and was an honorary member of the Maine State Teachers' Association. She was educated in the common schools of Ripley and at the age of 18, started her life career as a teacher, working her way through four years of study at the Teachers' College in Farmington. After her graduation she taught school in Ripley, Dexter, Cambridge, North Vassalboro, Winslow, and for 17 years in the Waterville city schools, retiring in June, 1940. She then went to California, planning to stay, but after a year's absence she returned, saying Maine would be her home. She spent her winters at the farm home of her brother, Jesse W. Hoyt, in Dexter, and summers at her cottage at Maplewood, Newport. Last fall she entered the Osteopathic Hospital in Waterville. After a partial recovery she was taken to the home of her sister, Mrs. Louise Robinson, in Dexter, where with the exception of a few weeks in the Plummer Memorial Hospital in Dexter, she remained until her death. She had been tenderly cared for by her sister and her niece, Mrs. Ruth Prescott.
