Obituary
Mrs. Diana A. Rollins. Mrs. Diana A. Rollins passed away last Monday at her home, corner of Main and High streets, this village, after an illness of seven months, which confined her to her bed, aged 77 years. Mrs. Rollins was a woman of remarkable strength of character and possessed a sweet, sunny temperament. She bore her illness with great gentleness and patience. A woman of strong convictions she was intensely patriotic, believing we have the best government in the world and that the national day, July 4th, should be religiously celebrated. She came of patriotic stock, her father, John Downing, serving in the war of 1812, while her only brother Riley Downing, served through the entire civil war. Born in Dexter she lived almost her entire life here. She took great pride and interest In its growth and prosperity, often saying our business men were the finest in the state. She believed in being a good neighbor and true friend. Her family, the Downings, were prominent Methodists and although her health was not good she said she must see the new Methodist church dedicated as she was at the dedication of the old and first one, relating to one of her daughters how with feelings of reverence and awe as a child she went down the aisle thinking it the most beautiful and grandest building in the world. There are trees in this village, set out by friends, that were of deep and abiding interest to her. She leaves three daughters, two coming from Cambridge, Mass., leaving their homes for nine months to give her the most devoted care. Her daughters are: Mrs. Ella M. Sturtevant, Mrs. Abbie Rollins Hasty, Miss Sarah Rollins. The funeral will be held this afternoon, Rev. H. B. Woods officiating.
