Obituary
William Allen Day. William Allen Day, a native of this town and for many years a resident, died at his home in Grand Island, Neb., Jan. 26th. He left Dexter some over 50 years ago. His father lived in what was known as the Keene neighborhood and will be remembered by our older residents. Mr. Day assisted in drawing the stone to build the present Dumbarton mill, each one contributing a days work toward the enterprise. Many friends and relatives of Mr. Day still reside in this vicinity. The Grand Island Independent of Feb. 3d contained the following notice of Mr. Day: The funeral services of Wm. A. Day were held at the residence, five miles north of Grand Island, Tuesday a. m. at 10 o'clock. Despite the severe cold there was a large attendance of neighbors and friends to pay the last sad rites of respect to the deceased. Rev. E. C. Ham, pastor of the Trinity M. E. church, officiated. He gave an appropriate discourse his theme being "Rest" into which the deceased had passed. Mr. Day had been a consistent Christian for sixty-four years. He was a good neighbor and a kind husband. The deceased was born in Maine in the year 1825. He later came to Illinois and in 1886 came to Nebraska, locating five miles north of Grand Island at which place he resided until his death which occurred Jan. 20tb. He had been in poor health for some time and had been confined to his bed for about four weeks in which time he was a great sufferer. In 1852 he was married to Aletta Minor. From this union were born three children, two daughters and one son, whom he has gone to meet in the better land. He leaves to mourn his loss a beloved wife and a host of friends. Interment was made in the Grand Island cemetery.
