Obituary	Parley A. Bailey died at his home in Gilman's Corner last Monday aged 81 years, 29 days. The funeral was held at the school house Wednesday morning. He leaves five children: F. A. Bailey of this village, G. P. Bailey with whom he lived, Mrs. Mary Starbird of Gilman, Mrs. Ellen Piper of Monson, and Miss Rosa Bailey of North Dexter. The Eastern Gazette 1-7-1904, p.5 OBITUARY. The subject of this sketch, Parley Augustus Bailey, was born in the town of Minot Dec. 5, 1822 and died at his home at Gilman's Corner, Jan. 4, 1904. He came to Sangerville in early childhood with his parents, who were Cyrus and Anna Bailey. The brothers and sisters are Mrs. A. D. Sprague and Montraville C. Bailey of Gilman, Mrs. Matilda Dexter of Sangerville, Mrs. A. B. Fogg of Dexter, Mrs. J. C. Trickey and Mrs. E. L. Higgins of Charleston, and one brother and sister, Nehemiah and Betsey, who died many years ago. In 1847 he married Miss Betsey Gilman, the ceremony being performed by the late Rev. Otis W. Bridges. The children are Mrs. Mary Starbird of Gilman, Fred A. Bailey of Dexter, Gilman P. Bailey, with whom he lived quite a number of years and died receiving the kindest and tenderest attention possible, Miss Rosa Bailey of North Dexter, Mrs. Ellie Piper of Monson. Bro. Bailey was a soldier of the Civil war serving in the 8th Maine Regiment, Co. H, where he did his duty faithfully. He with others was felling trees; a limb fall from a tree he was cutting striking him on the head from which he never fully recovered. The death of his wife occurred in 1882, which was a very heavy blow to him. I have known Bro. Bailey for more than 25 years. In the death of our beloved Bro. the church and Sabbath School have lost one of their most faithful members, the temperance cause a strong advocate. His life was above reproach and was an inspiration for good to all who knew him, one who will be sadly missed as a parent, was loving and kind. He will be missed most by the children who have done all they could to Make his life pleasant and agreeable. All the mourning friends have the smypathy of the entire community in their sorrow. The funeral occurred Jan. 6 at the school house. Appropriate hymns were sung by the choir selected from those he loved to sing so well here. Interment was in the family lot at Gilman.
