Obituary
Funeral services for Pfc. Paul V. Dyer, Jr., 21, who died early Sunday morning at the U.S. Army Hospital, Ft. Devens, Mass., after a long illness, were held at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Dexter, Wednesday morning. The Very Rev. C. J. Enright officiated. Bearers were: Gilbert Murdock and Lloyd Clukey, two veterans of the Korean conflict; Robert Gilbert, John Mathes, Romeo Vigue and Hadley Chandler, all of Dexter. Interment will take place this spring at Mt. Pleasant cemetery. Dexter service organizations attended in a group. Local service men who escorted the body from Newport Monday evening were: Virgil Gordon, Clarence Beverly, Quentin Robinson, Luther Nichols, Sheldon Flewelling and Neilan Chevery. Pfc. Dyer was born in Dexter, March 6, 1931, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul V. Dyer. He was educated in the local schools, graduating from N. H. Fay High School in the class of 1949. In November of the same year, he enlisted in the U. S. Army and received basic training at Ft. Dix. After completing an eight months' course in Army Security Agency at Carlisle, Pa., he served one month in Arlington Hall, Va., and was then sent to Tokyo, Japan, where he was assigned to Hdq. Army Security Agency. Surviving besides his parents are three sisters, Mrs. Almon Page, Jr., of Portland, Mr. William Reichert, Paris, Me., and Shirley, at home; also his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Cora Dyer of Dexter.
