ANNA M. CROUSE DEXTER - Anna M. Crouse, 74, died Feb. 26, 1999, at a Bangor hospital. She was born July 27, 1924, in Dexter, the daughter of Hanford and Carrie (Carter) Crouse. She graduated from N.H. Fay High School in 1942 and then re- ceived her BA degree from the Uni- versity of Maine in 1947. She re- ceived a BM degree in music education from the Northern Con- servatory of Music in Bangor in 1955 and a MS degree in music education from the New York State University College at Potsdam in 1964. She later attended summer courses at Boston University, Temple University as well as Extension courses at the University of Maine in Augusta and Gorham. She. received the Senior Music Award for partici- pation in music groups and was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She was the public school supervisor of music for the City of Bangor and later for the Town of Mexico for 29 years. She was a member of the music department at the University of Maine in Formington for two years and was the coral director at the Maine Music Camp from 1966- 1980. In 1978, Anna, retired to Dexter, where she continued to teach privately, She served as or- ganist and choir director for the Dexter United Methodist Church and as a quest conductor for festival groups. She was also piano accom- panist for the Dexter High School chorus and musicals and accompa- nied and assisted the conducting of the community chorus. Her personal and professional memberships in- clude, the Dexter First Baptist Church, Music Educators National Conference, Maine Music Educators Association and received their Music Educator of the Year Award in 1978; post president of the Ameri- can String Association, the Ameri- can Choral Directors Association and the Maine Educator's Associa- tion. She was a member of the Na- tional Retired Teachers Association, the American Association of Retired Persons, where she served as the state health advocate, and was cur- rently serving as president of the Piscataquis Retired Teachers Asso- ciation. She was a member of the Women's Legislative Council, the International Traininq in Communi- cations-Brunswick Club, Dexter Women's Literary Club, Dexter Sunshine Club, Dexter Public Health Association and the Bangor and Brewer Bands. She is survived by three neph- ews, Barry and his wife, Dodie Crouse of Abbot, Jere and his wife, Sharon Crouse of New York and Fred Crouse of Sangerville; an aunt, Bertha Carter Cushman of Orono; a special cousin, Virginia Cushman Ferrara of New Mexico; several grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Keith Crouse. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main St., Dexter. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church, Dexter with the Rev. Jay Brennan and the Rev. Jo Bennett of- ficiating. Spring burial will be in Crouseville Cemetery.
