Obituary
Jacob Puffer Jacob Puffer of Spooner's Mills died yesterday morning after a long illness at the age of 68 years, six months and 19 days. The deceased was born in this town, being the son of John and Mehitable (Ireland) Puffer, who came here from New Hampshire and were among the early settlers in that part of the town. He is survived by a wife and two daughters, Mrs. M. P. Leggett of this town and Mrs. Ralph Palmer of Sangerville. The funeral services will be held Friday forenoon at 10 o'clock. The Eastern Gazette 11-18-1909, p.8 In Memoriam On Tuesday evening, Nov. 16, at seven o'clock, Jacob Puffer, a lifelong resident of this town, passed from our midst at his home near Spooner's Mills. He was ill about eight months and suffered severe pain most of that time; he was unable to work for four months, and the last eight weeks was confined to the bed. The doctors pronounced it cancer on the stomach and a severe liver trouble. He was the son of John and Mehitable (Ireland) Puffer, and was born May 17,1841, in the home where he spent his last days. On Nov. 2, 1862, he married Ann Rand of Ripley, who, with their two daughters, Mrs. Clara Leggett of Dexter and Mrs. Ida Palmer of Sangerville, survives him. Two brothers, older than himself, attended the funeral. As a citizen of upright principles, perfectly honest and square in all dealings with others, ready to dispense charity whenever he thought needful, he will be missed by a large circle of friends and acquaintances. While we cannot help but mourn the loss of our dear one, may God help us to "Think of him faring on, as dear In the love of There as the love of' Here; Think of him still the same, I pray; He is not dead, he is just-away!"
