Obituary	FRED LEATHERS Fred Leathers, 81, died Wednesday at his home at Spooner's Mills, where he lived alone, after a long period of failing health. (The Eastern Gazette 3-20-1952, p.5) FRED LEATHERS Fred Leathers, 82, died suddenly March 19 at his home near Puffer's mill. Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon, Mar. 21 by the Rev. A. Allan Brough of the First Baptist Church, at the Crosby Funeral Home. Bearers were Newell Fern, Richard Gudroe, Ernest Robinson and Perley Edgecomb. Interment will be at Mt. Pleasant cemetery this spring. He was born in East Sangerville Sept. 24, 1869, the son of Fairfield and Nellie Leathers. When he was quite young the family moved to the home on the Dover road, near Macomber's Corner, where they lived for many years. On Oct. 11, 1925, he married Mrs. Annie Littlefield. She died in December 1936 and Mr. Leathers lived alone most of the time since. Besides several cousins, he leaves a large circle of friends, who sincerely mourn his passing. Among those who mourn him most sincerely are Ervin Leighton of Silver's Mills and Arthur Inman who have been his "pals" since early childhood, and Will Fern, a neighbor and faithful friend, who has looked after him in his declining years and was with him at the end.
