Obituary	REYNOLD NATHAN PIERCE DEXTER, ME AND NASHVILLE, TN, Reynold Nathan Pierce, 89, born in Dexter, Maine, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at his home in Nashville, TN where he resided with his niece Jean Morin Bruce and her husband. Reynold was the eldest son born October 19, 1915 of the late Clarence Nathan & Alma Beatrice (Morrison) Pierce, formerly of Dexter, ME. As a child and young man, Reynold spent his summers at the family cottage in Ocean Park, Maine. One childhood memory was the summer of 1928 when he and his brother Dean, assisted in the digging and building of the tidal controlled swimming pool owned by the Royal Ambassador Camp. The pool was still in operation forty years later when his nieces and nephew took swimming lessons there. Reynold graduated from Dexter High School in 1932, followed by a post graduate year at Higgins Classical Institute in Charleston, ME. He spent two years at Colby College and one winter term at Husson College in Bangor, ME. He then worked briefly as a stenographer for Monroe & Tompkins on the State Pier in Portland, ME before enlisting in the Navy in 1942. He attended Sound School in Key West, Florida and served on two destroyers; USS Swasey and USS French, in anti-submarine warfare in the North Atlantic, Mediterranean, and Pacific Theaters during WW II. As a disabled veteran, Reynold returned to Dexter after serving his country. Reynold lived in the family home until 1985. He then moved to “Stan Acres” in E. Corinth before moving to “Family Living Center” in Saco to be closer to his sister and the Pierce summer cottage in Ocean Park. Since 2003, Reynold had been living with his niece and her husband, first in East Parsonsfield, ME and then moving in 2004 to Nashville, TN. His 8 nephews and nieces knew him as “Unkie.” He was the game king of the family and played board games by the hour; Monopoly, Parcheesi and Chinese Checkers were his favorites. It was not unusual for Reynold to play Monopoly by himself when no one else was available, and he didn’t cheat. It was never known if the shoe, dog, or car would win when the game began. Later in his life Reynold took up candlepin bowling which became his passion. He treasured his numerous bowling trophies. Reynold was a member of the First Dexter Baptist Church, the United Baptist Church of Saco, ME, & the Ocean Park Association, Ocean Park, ME. Reynold was predeceased by his parents and brother, Dean Sawyer Pierce. He leaves his sister, Helen Beatrice (Pierce) Morin of Ocean Park, ME., 8 nephews and nieces; Dean Pierce Jr., Elizabeth Pierce, Christine (Pierce) Doyle & Patricia (Pierce) Berzins all from Minnesota, & Linda (Morin) Perkins, Suzanne W. Morin, & Jeffrey F. Morin- all from Maine, & Jean Morin Bruce from Tennessee, plus 15 great nephews and nieces for the next generation of “Pierce Cottage Ocean Parkers.” Reynold will be buried in the family plot at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Dexter, Maine. A private family service will be held in Ocean Park, ME.
