Obituary
Jairus W. Hodgkins, one of our oldest citizens, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Forest W. Parsons, on Free street, last Sunday morning, aged 86 years, 9 months. Mr. Hodgkins was a farmer, residing in the Barton neighborhood, until about 17 years ago when he moved into the village. He was a capable music teacher and conducted many of the singing schools of old times, Mr. Hodgkins was a man of more than usual ability and in former years was active in all matters concerning the welfare of our town and its people. For some time past he has been quite infirm and was nearly blind yet he maintained his interest in affairs until the close. He leaves three daughters, Mrs. F. W. Parsons, with whom he lived, Mrs. Mabel McCoy Irwin and Mrs. Viola Gilbert. Mrs. Irwin was present at the funeral, which was held at the house Tuesday afternoon, Rev. W. H. Gould officiating.
