HECTOR HEBERT YARMOUTH - Hector Hebert,89, of West Elm St., Yarmouth, died Monday, Jan. 27,1997, at Brent- wood Manor. He was born in Van Buren, the son of Adolphe and Anna Sirois Hebert. He graduated from St. Mary's Preparatory School, Van Bu- ren and the University of Maine in 1930. While at U of M, he played varsity football and basketball. He was a member of the Maine Varsity Club and Theta Chi Fraternity. Mr. Hebert began his 49 year career in education in 1931 as a history teach- er in Guilford. From there, he taught in Bangor and Vermont. He taught at Wassookeag Prep School, Dexter and Dexter High School for many years. He also taught history at Wassookeag Summer School for 35 years. In 1961, he became head of the history department and coached tennis at Yarmouth High School. During his teaching years, he coached five sports, football, basketball, baseball, hockey and tennis. He also was a referee for many years. Mr. Hebert enjoyed all sports, jazz, music, his extensive newspaper collection and books. He was a member of the M. Club; past president of University of Maine Alumni Class of 1930. He was a member of First Parish Congrega- tional Church in Yarmouth. In 1987, Mr. Hebert was presented the Latch- string Award and Yormouth's Citi- zenship Award. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Laurine Willey He- bert of Yarmouth; a daughter, Mar- cia Doherty of Yarmouth and Flori- da; two grandsons, John Doherty of Cape Elizabeth, Jay Doherty of San Francisco; and a great-grandson. There will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Friday at First Parish Congregation- al Church, 135 Main St., Yarmouth. Burial will be in the spring at Elm- wood Cemetery, Guilford. If desired memorial contributions may be made to the Sunshine Club, Dexter O4930; or to the First Universalist Church, Dexter 04930.
