Obituary
Charles F. Witherill The death of Charles F. Witherill occurred late Saturday evening at his home on Main street after an illness of several weeks. Mr. Witherill has been in poor health for the past year but it was not until recently that his life was despaired of, physicians and specialists offering no hope for his recovery. The deceased was a native of Dexter, being the son of Rev. J. F. Witherill, who in 1853 founded the Gem and Gazette and later the Dexter Gazette. His business was that of a contractor and builder. He has been instrumental in the building of many residences in this town and several years ago constructed the brick Witherill block on Main street, which he later sold to John W. Springall. Mr. Witherill was a conservative business man and a good citizen, and his death is deeply regretted by a large circle of friends. A year, or more ago he undertook the management of the Star theater on Main street which has prospered under his management. His age was about 66 years, 4 months, and besides' a widow he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Eva Randall of Foxcroft. The funeral was held from the home on Main street Tuesday afternoon. Rev. Geo. Leighton, formerly of Portsmouth, N. H., officiated. The bearers were Messrs. Charles R. Favor, David K. Jenkins, Harry L. Tillson and Cyrus Drew. Interment was at Mount Pleasant cemetery.
