Obituary	David H. Mudgett News was received here Friday afternoon of the death in St. Barnabas hospital, Portland, of Mr. David H. Mudgett of this town. The news of Mr. Mudgett's death came as a genuine shock to his many friends here and deep regret was expressed on all sides. It was known that his condition had been considered as serious for several days but his friends here were hoping for the best and were unprepared for the news that came over the wires. Early Friday morning Mrs. Mudgett was summoned by wire to the hospital, owing to the serious turn in his condition, arriving there a short time after his death. No man in Dexter will be missed more than Mr. Mudgett. Prominent in business life, he was a man that the town could ill afford to lose. Among his closer friends he was loved for those qualities which only close comradeship can bring forth. He was a son of the late Dr. Simeon Mudgett, for many years a respected resident of this town. He was at one time engaged in the drug business, being succeeded by E. A. Brewster & Son. He was the principal owner and general manager of the Wassookeag Woolen Co., and also the proprietor of a model farm, where he made a specialty of raising high-blooded cattle. For several years he has been a sufferer from an injury to one of his legs, which occurred when a boy. Several weeks ago serious complications developed and he was taken to Portland for treatment at the hands of Dr. Abbott, the bone specialist. He underwent a surgical operation which, at first, gave promise of being successful. Other complications, however, developed and for the past week his condition has been a source of worriment to those of his friends who were acquainted with the details. The funeral services were held at the home Monday, the services being conducted by Rev. Cannon George B. Nicholson, rector of St. Mark's Episcopal church of Waterville. The members of Dexter club of which Mr. Mudgett was a member, attended the services in a body, as did the members of Bedivere lodge, K. of P. The lodge escorted the remains to the grave at Mt. Pleasant cemetery. During the services, the woolen mills of the town were closed out of respect to Mr. Mudgett. The bearers were Messrs. Freeman D. Dearth, George Park, Walter E. Hill, F. H. Hayes, Wesley H. Judkins and Arthur P. Abbott. There were many floral offerings which silently testified to the high esteem in which the deceased was held.
