Death Takes Dexter's Oldest Resident, 97 Funeral services for Frank Tate, 97, Dexter's oldest man and holder of the Boston Post gold headed cane since 1943, were held Monday afternoon at the Crosby Funeral Home. The Rev. Joseph M. Clare, pastor of the Methodist church, officiated. Bearers were Malcolm Hatch, L. Harvey Hatch, Jr., Lloyd Dyer and Paul V. Dyer. Interment was in Elmwood cemetery, Dexter. Mr. Tate, who had been in failing health over a long period of time, died Friday, Nov. 9. He was born in Lawrence, Mass., April 7, 1854, son of the late William and Margaret (Fairgrieve) Tate, and came to Dexter when a small child. A spinner by trade, he had been employed in Dexter, Sangerville, and Hartland woolen mills. An ardent fisherman, he was a life member of the Dexter Fish and Game Association. He is survived by five nieces, Mrs. Norman Parcher, Sanford, Mrs. Arthur Weymouth, Cambridge, Mass., Mrs. Lloyd H. Hatch, Sr., Mrs. Elsie Sharpe and Miss Estelle Hill of Dexter; several grand nieces and grand nephews.
