Obituary
Death of G. C. Ryan The death of G. C. Ryan, one of the best known residents of Dexter, took place at his home on Pleasant street Saturday afternoon, the cause being ascribed to heart failure or apoplexy. He had been apparently in as good health as usual and was at work shoveling out the paths in the yard when he suddenly fell to the ground. His son, Charles, was at work with him and got him into the house, but it was found that life was already extinct. News of Mr. Ryan's death came as a great shock to his friends. He had been enjoying his usual good health and on Saturday morning had been out with his team about town. His death was a severe blow to the family and they have the sincere sympathy of a large circle of friends in their bereavement. The deceased has resided in Dexter, for many years and for a long period of the time has been engaged in the business of retailing ladies' wear and millinery over a large section of the State. He drove from town to town by team and in this business he has become widely known throughout this section. He was a man highly respected by his friends, and they were many. He was a member of Penobscot lodge F. & A. M. Besides a widow, he is survived by three children, Mrs. Winfield S. Brown of this town, Miss Angie Ryan, who resides at home and Charles L. Ryan, who is a student at the University of Toronto and who is at home on a short vacation. A sister, Mrs. Charles H. Bickford, resides in Dover. He was 59 years of age last April. Funeral services were held from the home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. S. G. Spear officiating. The funeral services of the Masonic order were conducted by a delegation of members from Penobscot lodge. The services were simple in character and were attended by a large number of the friends and neighbors of the deceased. The pall bearers were Messrs. Joseph Larrabee, Percy A. Hasty, Samuel E. Moore and Charles D. Roberts.
