Obituary
Marcellus E. Barton Brothers Died the Same Day The remains of Gustavius B. Barton and Marcellus E. Barton of Chicago, arrived here Monday, and were taken to the home of their brother, R. Melrose Barton. Both died Wednesday, April 18, in Chicago, the former from the effects of the grip and the latter following a short illness with pneumonia. Both were natives of this town, being born at the Barton homestead, now owned and occupied by R. M. Barton. They were the sons of the late Mr. and Mrs. Artemus Barton, for many years a prominent farmer in this town. Both, have for many years, been resident of Chicago, the former being engaged in the commission business, while the latter was engaged in the grocery business. Marcellus E. Barton was 56 years of age, while Gustavius Barton was about 65 years old. The death of the former occurred Wednesday morning, April 18, and the latter died that evening. Both have prospered since going west. Marcellus was a visitor in this town about two years ago. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday morning from the Universalist church, Rev. Stanley Gates Spear, tended by many friends of the Barton family. The floral offerings were profuse and very beautiful. The bearers were Henry Pullen, Gilman Pullen, Charles Carr, Harry Johnson, Wilson Hamilton, Stanford M. Leighton, Joseph King and Carroll Mower.
