Obituary	Elbridge A. Flanders Elbridge A. Flanders of North Dexter died early Saturday at his home following a long illness from valvular disease of the heart. Mr. Flanders had taken his bed about two weeks previous to his death. The deceased was numbered among the prominent citizens of Dexter and for many years has been extensively engaged in lumbering, being the owner of many acres of valuable timberlands. He was the owner of the saw mills at North Dexter which, for years, have been the largest in this vicinity. Mr. Flanders was the son of the late Reuben Flanders who, during his lifetime, was one of the pioneers in the manufacture and shipping of box shooks to foreign countries. Mr. Flanders was the promoter and builder of North Dexter woolen mills which are now operated by the Greenwood Woolen Co. He was a member of Penobscot lodge, F. & A. M., of this town. His friends were many and he was a man that the town can ill afford to lose. He is survived by a widow. Funeral services were held Tuesday from the home. The Eastern Gazette 11-12-1914, p.8 The funeral of Elbridge A. Flanders was held at his home at North Dexter, Nov. 10. Many came to pay their last tribute of respect to one who has been an associated for many years. Rev. Stanley Gates Spear spoke words of comfort to the bereaved ones. The Masons of which be was a worthy brother, conducted their impressive memorial services. The bearers were Perley Bodge, Halbert Bean, Robert Davis and Elmer Robinson. The cas- ket and around it was banked with flowers from friends far and near, one of the largest pieces was a harp with a broken string from the neighbors, which was very beautiful, and silently spoke of their esteem. There were many received from friends in Massachusetts, Old Town, Bangor, Corinna and Dexter. Hutchinson an Gates were funeral conductors and the interment was in the village cemetery. Mr. Flanders was born in Dexter and at the time of his death was 62 years, 11 months and 15 days old. He was the son of Reuben Flanders. When he was twelve years of age his father bought the mill and home at North Dexter, where he has lived since and with much hard labor and perseverance has not only built the woolen mill and homes for the help, but in a large way made the pretty little village what it is today. Therehas been many millions of different kinds of lumber sawed and shipped from the mills giving work to thousands of men. He was a great lover of his home, where he leaves a wife, Rosa Bailey Flanders, also a sister-in-law, Ida Flanders, who have much sympathy from their many friends. Although in poor health the past year, Mr. Flanders has expressed a wish that he could with his wife spend the coming winter in Florida, but one who never makes any mistakes called the suffering one home. He often expressed this wish, that as he had laid down his work, some new industry would be put in to give work to the people in whom he felt a deep interest.
