Obituary
Fannie Elizabeth Arnold There was recently noted in this paper the death of a former Dexter woman, esteemed and beloved by many friends in many places. Fannie E. Arnold was the worthy daughter of worthy parents, descended from a somewhat distinguished English family. Born nearly fifty-three years ago on a farm a short distance from the village, she was educated in Dexter schools, and for a few years, taught successfully here and in neighboring towns. Later she took a course at the Dirigo business college and, as bookkeeper, became associated with firms in Dexter, Augusta and Richmond, in which place she has made her home for the past eight years. At one time she carried on an enterprise of her own in connection with shoe manufacturies at Newburyport and Haverhill. Miss Arnold had a very distinct individuality, combining a safe, practical, sincere mind with a disposition of exceptional loveliness. The years spent in caring for an invalid mother and an aged father bore continual evidence of cheerful unselfishness and loyalty, steadily unfolding what Whittier calls "the calm beauty of an ordered life." Her memory will long be cherished in the Episcopal church to which from youth she gave her allegiance and benefactions. F. B. D.
