Obituary	Woodsie Appleby Julia Woods (Folsom), the beloved wife of Lamont H. Appleby of Pittsfield, passed to the higher life on Jan. 4, 1914 at the age of 36 years, 7 months and 23 days. All that loving and willing hands could do was done for her but without avail. She was the eldest daughter of Eben C. Folsom of this place and was born in Sangerville May 12, 1877. Her parents moved to Dexter when she was young, and in her home at Haseltine's corner she passed a large part of her life until Feb. 26, 1903, when she was united in marriage to Mr. Appleby and went to Palmyra, where they resided with his parents for a time, later building them a cozy little home in Pittsfield, where they have since resided. Besides her husband and parents she leaves to mourn their loss, four sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Jeanete Turner of Isle au Haute, Forrest, Marion, Carrol, Margaret and Josephine Folsom of this place, also a large circle of relatives and old friends and schoolmates to whom she was as dear as a sister, besides numberless newer friends that she was ever making. To her husband's relatives she was as dear as their very own. Our Woodsie had ever an affectionate and cheerful disposition. For many years she has been a most faithful and sincere Christian. She gave herself fully and freely to the Master's service in early girlhood and united with the Dexter Free Baptist church at the age of fourteen. After her marriage she united with the Pittsfield Free Baptist church and was a member of the New Era auxilliary and the local branch of the W. C. T. U. She dearly loved the little white ribbon which she constantly wore. Her influence was ever for the right and we know surely that there "will be stars in her crown." She was a loving and devoted wife, daughter, sis- ter and friend, and withal a most notable housekeeper. In her girlhood she was one of the best of teachers, beginning to teach at the age of sixteen, and showing unusual ability in one so young. She taught in the public schools of Dexter, Swan's Island and Palmyra for a period covering several years, and made a larger circle of close friends than often falls to one's lot. It has been truly said of her that "none knew, her but to love her." From her earliest childhood, her rare common sense, her sweet womanly ways, her gentle kindness, her loving care for those nearest and dearest to her, ever endeared her to all; and her sure sympathy was always to be depended upon. Every home that has ever welcomed her mourns its loss with a grief that is deep and sincere. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints." Funeral services were held from the Pittsfield home Tuesday, Jan. 6, Rev. H. M. Ford of the Free Baptist church spoke beautiful words of com- fort and peace to the bereaved ones. A large number of people were in attendance, the, W. C. T. U. attending in a body. Many beautiful floral of- ferings gave silent testimony to the love and esteem borne the deceased.
