Obituary
Mrs. Velma Covell To a host of Dexter people came as a shock the news of the sudden passing away of Mrs. Earl Covell (Velma Briggs) after an illness of one week's duration, during which period she was a sufferer from pneumonia, death ocurring Saturday evening December 7, at nine o'clock. Mrs. Covell was the bride of a Dexter man, to whom she was married only four weeks and three days prior to the day of her death, the couple leaving Dexter for Portland, two weeks ago, where Mr. Covell had secured employment in a machine shop. Both husband and wife were well known in Dexter, Mrs. Covell being the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Briggs of this town. She was a graduate of Dexter High school, class of 1917, and was a member of the Free Baptist church, having been baptized as a member of that denomination several years ago. She was a young woman of pleasing personality, ever faithfully endeavor-ing to consciously exemplify the tenets of her church, and to practice true Christian living in her daily life. Her age was about twenty years, and she leaves her husband, Earl Covell, also her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Briggs, and a brother, Maurice Briggs all of Dexter, to whom their friends extend sincere sympathy in the be- reavement which has befallen them. Funeral services were held at 1 o'clock Thursday afternoon from the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John F. Briggs. Rev. E. M. Tafton, pastor of the Free Baptist church officiating.
