Obituary
Charles W. Yeaton The death of Charles W. Yeaton one of the younger business men of Dexter, which occurred Monday evening, after an operation for appendici- tis, cast a gloom over the entire community. Mr. Yeaton was taken ill the first of last week and, growing steadily worse, it was decided that an operation was necessary. Accordingly Drs. Nichols of Farmington and Cragin of Waterville were summoned and the operation performed Wednesday night of last week. At first Mr. Yeaton seemed to be holding his own, but Monday morning change for the worse set in and he died at 8.45 in the evening. Mr. Yeaton was 33 years of age and since coming to Dexter has made a great many friends. He was a native of Steuben, living in that town until 17 years of age, then going to Portland where he graduated from the Shaw Business College in 1900. Because of special efficiency he was offered a position as instructor in the Shaw college in Augusta. One year later he accepted a responsible position for Fay and Scott, here as bookkeeper and time keeper and six years ago was elected treasurer of the corporation. He severed his connection with Fay & Scott to become owner of the Daggett shoe store of Dexter, the firm being the Yeaton Shoe Co. The store becoming one of the finest and most modern in Central Maine by Mr. Yeaton's up-to-date policy and business methods. He was a valued member of the Dexter club and was also of Penobscot lodge, F. and A. M., St. John R. A. chapter, Wassookeag chapter O. E. S., Bedivere lodge K of P., the Dexter male quartet. Mr. Yeaton married first Gertrude Stearns whose death occurred several years ago, by whom he had one daughter, Norma. Later he married Miss Mabel Hunter of Farmington, who survives him. Funeral services were held at the Universalist church yesterday afternoon, Rev. S. G. Spear, assisted by Rev. S. G. Olds, officiating. Good- sized delegations from the Masonic and Knights of Phythias lodges were in attendance, as well as a great many friends of the family. During the hour of the services the stores and places of business on Main street were closed as a mark of respect to the deceased. The deceased was a young man of sterling character, genial nature and possesed a host of friends who will sadly miss him. The remains were taken to Farmington Thursday morning for interment. Mr. Yeaton leaves a wife, Mrs. Mabel Hunter Yeaton, formerly of Farmington, also a daughter, Norma, and other relatives, who have the sympathy of the community in their sorrow. The bearers at the service in Dexter were Peter Plouff,, Winthrop L. Fay, Harry E. Hale, Fred O. Herrick, George Leighton and Edwin Childs.
