Obituary
William Tait William Tait, one of the oldest and best known residents of Dexter, died very suddenly late Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Tait had been spending a portion of the afternoon ice fishing on Lake Wassookeag and late in the afternoon called at the residence of William Morrison on Zions hill. He had started back toward the lake and was walking across the field when occupants of the houses saw him reel and fall. When assistance reached him he was dead, death evidently being due to heart failure. The deceased was born in Galashields, Scotland, 88 years ago and when a young man came to this country where he associated himself with the woolen industry. For many years he was a valued employee of the mills of the Amos Abbott Co. in this town. Retiring from active labor quite a few years ago, he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Samuel E. Moore on Beech street, where he spent his declining years in comfort and happiness. Throughout his life Mr. Tait was a lover of the out-of-doors and his favorite pastime was fishing. He was always among the first to wet a line in Lake Wassookeag every spring and his skill as an angler was well known. Mr. Tait was also an expert gardiner and his old fashioned flower garden at the Moore home on Beech street was something that seldom failed to attract attention from a passer-by. His kindliness, his ready wit and never failing integrity won for him, the friendship of many. Mr. Tait was one of the oldest members of Penobscot lodge, F. and A. M. Throughout his many years he maintained his interest in Masonry and was a valued member of the lodge. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Samuel E. Moore with whom he resided, Mrs. Walter E. Hill of lower Main street and by one son, Frank R. Tait of this town. Funeral services will be held at the Universalist church, Friday afternoon at 2 o clock, Rev. S. G. Spear officiating.
