Obituary
Hold Funeral Service For Wilford Slater Funeral services for Wilford Slater, 52, were held Wednesday afternoon at the First Universalist Church with the pastor, The Rev. Theodore A.Webb, officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant cemetery this spring. The bearers were: Elwood A. Stevens, Bert C. Page, Erwin P. Chandler, Rufus Tillson, all of Dexter; Russell Wooster, Newport. He died Monday morning at his home on Church street following an attack of coronary thrombosis. He was born in Dexter, June 14, 1898, son of the late George and Emily Slater. He was graduated from Dexter High School and attended Bowdoin College for one year during which time he was a member of Chi Psi fraternity. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War I. For several years he served as tax collector for Dexter and resigned to become postmaster serving a four-year term. He was associated with MGM for a period of years as checker of theaters in eastern Maine. Mr. Slater was a member of the First Universalist Church of Dexter, serving as chief usher; the Boneka Club of that church; and Penobscot Lodge, F. and A. M. He was a past commander of Edward Poulliot Post, American Legion, now the Poulliot-Seavey Post. Besides his, wife, Mrs. Ruth Shepherd Slater, he is survived by two brothers, George Slater of Dover, N. H., and Rexford Slater, Dexter; two sisters, Mrs. Harry Young and Mrs. William Spencer, both of this town.
