Obituary
Freeland J. Gerry Freeland J. Gerry, for many years a prominent resident of this town, died very suddenly at his home on main street Saturday evening, death coming just after he had finished eating supper and before he had arisen from the table. Mr. Gerry had not been in the best of health for some time, but his death came as a shock to his friends. The deceased was a former resident of Garland and was one of the pioneers in the creamery business in this section of Maine. Starting in a small way in Garland the business grew steadily and coming to this town he formed the F. J. Gerry company, which, for many years, operated creameries in many towns in this section of the State. Several years ago the business was sold to D. Whiting & Sons of Boston, who now conduct the creameries. Associated with Mr. Gerry in the business was Walter L. Gordon of this town. Several years before the business was sold to the Whitings the Gerry building on Main street, the largest brick structure in town, was constructed. Since retiring from the creamery business, Mr. Gerry devoted his time to conducting a large farm. Besides a wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Harry Foster, who for the past few months has been residing with her parents. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the home.
