Obituary
Samuel S. Ireland The death of Samuel S. Ireland, one of the oldest and most prominent business men of Dexter, occurred at his home on Main street, Monday morning. For the past three years he has been in failing health but his death came suddenly at the last. Mr. Ireland was a native of North Newport and in his younger years was engaged in the lumber business in California and Nevada, returning east to engage in the dry goods business in Dexter in the early seventies. He continued in that line at the same location, corner Main and Grove streets, until the spring of 1914, when he sold the business to the V. R. Smith Co., who have since conducted it, and retired from business, his retirement being made necessary by the state of his health. For many years he was a director of the First National bank of Dexter, and upon the organization of the Dexter Trust & Banking Co., which succeeded the National bank, he was made a director of the new institution. In early life he was united in marriage with Miss Mary Holt of Corinna, who survives. Besides his wife, he is survived by a brother in Alaska. Funeral services were held this afternoon at two o'clock at the home.
