Obituary
Richard Card, Jr. The many friends of Richard Card, Jr., will learn with sorrow of his passing away early Wednesday morning after a long illness with tuberculosis, during which time he was most thoughtful of those ministering to his needs, ever patient, and although ever realizing the gravity of his illness made a brave fight for recovery carefully attending to every detail outlined by the attending physician in the effort to effect a return to normal health. For several months Mr. Card was a patient at Hebron sanatorium, but during the past week he has been at the home of Misses Grace and Mabel Howard, Dexter, who with the young man's father, R. B. Card, have lovingly and tenderly ministered to his needs. Richard Card was born in Eastport, coming to Dexter with his parents and brother, when a child. Here he attended the public schools and graduated from Dexter high school in the class of 1908, being a particulary promising student. For several years he was in the employ of C. H. Hayden, florist, leaving finally for Boston where he attended night school and in the day was employed in a drug store. For a short time he was an employee on the Boston Elevated railroad, eventually returning to Dexter to enter the employ of the American Express company, continuing in this work until failing health compelled him to withdraw from an active life. Mr. Card was posseessed of strong character, cheerful, genial, ever ready to be of assistance to friends and acquaintances. He was deeply interested in the First Universalist church. A fine type of young manhood he will be deeply missed by a host of friends, to whom his death comes as a personal loss. He leaves a father, R. B. Card of Dexter, two brothers, Fred Card of Newtonville, Mass., and Gray Card Rev. H. L. Mckenzie will officiate. The interment will be made in the family lot of Elmwood cemetery, of Somerville Mass., who have the sympathy of the community in their sorrow. Funeral services will be held on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock and the pastor of the Congregational church.
