Obituary
Hold Funeral For Frank 'Dutch' Howard Private funeral services for Frank "Dutch" Howard, 67, who died Friday right at the local hospital after a brief illness, were held at the home on Maple street, Monday afternoon. The Rev. Theodore A. Webb, pastor of the First Universalist Church, officiated and burial was in Mt. Pleasant cemetery. Bearers were: Glen C. Ayr, Harold E. Hatch, Edgar Page and Ralph Lowell, who had been his fellow workers for many years. The local post office, where he had been employed for the past 32 years, was closed during the service and the postal force attended in a body. A professional baseball player, well-known throughout the state as "Dutch" Howard, the southpaw, and also known as an ardent fisherman in this area, he was born in 1882 at Sebago Lake, Me, son of Henry H. and Louisa Morton Howard. He was educated in the Portland schools and at the age of 15 moved to Newport. While there he worked in the milk factory and a woolen mill and at one time operated a pool room and bowling alley. After moving to Dexter in 1916 he owned and operated a bowling alley and pool room, and also a public carriage. Since June, 1918, he has been employed in the local post office as a clerk. He was a member of Meridian Splendor Lodge, A. F. and A. M. of Newport. Survivors are his wife, Emma Stuart Howard; a daughter, Mrs. Philip Godreau, all of Dexter; a half-brother, Fred Howard, Mexico, Me.; a half-sister, Mrs. Bertha Atkinson, Melrose, Mass., and two nieces.
