Hold Funeral Services For Harry A. Blake Funeral services for Harry A. Blake, 70, were held this afternoon (Thursday) at the First Universalist Church with the pastor, the Rev. Theodore A. Webb, officiating. Active bearers were: Millard G. Otto, Clarence H. Crosby, Charles H. Ansell, Fred J. Quigley, Almon Page, Sr., Joseph P. Rand. Honorary bearers were: Peter S. Plouff, Nathan C. Bucknam, Walter N. Rowe, Omar F. Carr, Bert L. Call. One of Mr. Blake's sons, Lt. Col. Donald Blake, who was flown from Germany, arrived in Dexter this noon from Westover Field. Mr. Blake, one of Dexter's most highly respected educators, a legislator, and president of the Maine Universalist convention, died Monday afternoon at the local hospital after several weeks' illness. Born in Dexter in 1880, the son of Alfred and Abbie King Blake, he was a graduate of Bates College in 1902. For 22 years he was principal of N. H. Fay High School, retiring from that position in 1941. Prior to that he had served as High School principal at Uxbridge, Abington and Bridgewater, Mass., and had taught at Hollis, N. H., and Quincy Mass. At one time he served as vice president of the Maine Secondary Principals Association. He represented Dexter in the 1945 and 1947 Legislature as a member of the House. It was in 1948 that he succeeded Samuel Collins of Caribou as president of the Maine Universalists. He was a member of the Dexter Club and the EIkinstown Club. He was married in 1909 to Miss Lois Thompson, a former teacher in Bridgewater, Mass., and Dexter. Surviving also are two sons, K. Stanford Blake of Dexter and Lt. Donald Blake; two uncles, Frank Blake of North Dexter, and Edward Blake of Middleboro, Mass.; and three granddaughters.
