Obituary
DR. CHARLES M. FOSS One of the &at Known Homeopathic Physicians in Maine Dr. Charles Miller Foss, one of the most widely known physicians in this section of the state, died Sunday morning at his home on Maple street after an illness of several months from Bright's disease. He had been in failing health for several years but was able to give his attention to a part of his large practice until a few months ago. Dr. Foss was 74 years of age and had been a practicing homeopathic physician for 53 years, beginning at the remarkably early age of 21. He was born in St. Albans, coming to Dexter after his graduation from the Philadelphia Medical College. He was married in 1869 to Mary Judkins of Monmouth who survives him. He is also survived by a son, Charles R. Foss, of this town and a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Fassett, of Lewiston, who was with him at the time of his death. The deceased had a reputation for skill in his profession and it is safe to say had a wider range of practice than most physicians in Maine, being so many years the only homeopathic physician in this section of the state. He was faithful as well as proficient and highly respected by all who knew him. Dr. Foss was a member of Penobscot lodge, F. and A. M., of this town, St. John's Royal Arch, Chapter of Dexter and of St. John's Commandery, Knights Templar of Bangor. He was also a member of Plymouth lodge of Odd Fellows of this town. He was also one of the oldest members of the Dexter Club. He was a valued member of the Maine State Homeopathic association and at the last meeting he attended two years ago in Augusta, he was made an honorary member. Many of the publications of this organization contain articles written by Dr. Foss. Funeral services were conducted from the home on Maple street Wednesday afternoon, Rev. R. L. Olds, former pastor of the Baptist church officiating. Many friends gathered to pay tribute to the memory of one of Maine's best known physicians. The floral offerings were profuse and beautiful. The service was very simple in accordance with the deceased who never cared for ostentation. The bearers were Amos A. Springall, Lafayette B. Waldron, Taylor K. Edes, Charles G. Towle, Dr. Charles H. Haines and George H. Hall. Interment was in the family lot at Mt. Pleasant cemetery.
