Obituary
Arthur Ernest Pierce Dexter friends of Arthur Ernest Pierce were saddened to learn of his sudden death from diphtheria at the naval hospital, Puget Sound, Washington, the news of which was received by telegram Tuesday evening, by his brother, Clarence Pierce, Forest street, with whom he made his home when not in the service. The body will be brought to Dexter for interment and announcement of the service in his memory will be made later. Mr. Pierce was twenty-seven years and six months of age, having been in the naval service four years, enlisting before the declaration of war by the United States and serving during the entire period of the war. He had the privilege of witnessing the surrender of the German navy to the Allies and visited many foreign ports of interest. His rank was that of first-class yoeman. He was a young man of sterling character and was a favorite with his many friends who extend deepest sympathy to the family. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Clara Pierce, and one brother Clarence Pierce, both of this town.
