Funeral services were held from the home Sunday afternoon. 3-3-1921, p.5 William Osgood Eaton William Osgood Eaton, a prominent farmer and life-long resident of Dexter, died at his home on the Ripley road February 24, after a short ill- ness at the age of 79 years, 7 months and 26 days. Mr. Eaton was born in Dexter June 28, 1841, the son of William and Thankful (Field) Eaton. He was educated in the common schools of his native town and always a lover of rural life and all pertaining to it, he early, in life chose farming as his occupation, and by his energy and determination he made that business a success. Nov. 20, 1875, he was united in marriage to Miss Ella Additon, daughter of Philip Additon of Dexter. Soon after his marriage he moved to the farm where be lived until his death. Of this marriage one daughter was born, Miss Bertha Eaton, who died in early womanhood. He was a kind and indulgent husband and father, a good neighbor and a valued friend. Of a genial disposition he was ever ready to help in any worthy cause. In public life he served his town as selectman, in the grange as master. In politics he was always a Republican, serving on the town committee of that party with credit, and always held the respect and confidence of those with whom he came in contact. He leaves to mourn their loss, besides a widow, one sister, Mrs. Mary Downing, of Brockton, Mass., one niece, Mrs. Mary Eaton Sawyer, of Dexter and seven nephews, William Downing, who has assisted him in his business for several years, also Jos- eph, Frank and Fred Downing, Chas., Joseph and Walter Eaton. The extensive floral offerings bore silent testimony of the respect and esteem in which he was held by his many friends and neighbors, and we trust he has gone to receive that great commendation, "Well done, good did faithful servant." One who knew him. 3-10-1921, p.8
