Obituary
Mrs. Cynthia V. Towle Cynthia Viola, widow of the late John Roberts Towle, a veteran of the Civil war, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, at the home of her son, Albert Towle, on the Garland road, where appropriate services were held Friday afternoon, Rev. Barron McIntire, pastor of the Universalist church, officiating. Kindred and friends testified their sympathy and esteem by profuse and beautiful floral tributes. The bearers were Sidney, John, Albert and Roy Towle. The interment was in Mt. Pleasant ceme-tery. Only a few days before Mrs. Towle enjoyed the observance of her eighty-sixth birthday, when all her children were with her. She was born in Burnham, daughter of Orville Nichols, and sister of Abner Nichols of Wiscasset, the only surviving member of her father's family. She attended Bangor High school and soon after marrying John Roberts Towle a union that lasted over sixty-four years, she came to Dexter where she has since made her home. Probably no better read or more intelligent woman for her day could have been found in her community. She had remarkably ready wit, a decided and patriotic interest in political questions, and was liberal in her religious convictions. She was the well-beloved mother of nine children, six of whom have gone on before her.
