Obituary
Death of Alonzo R. Leavitt We have to announce the death of Alonzo R. Leavitt at St. Cloud, Fla., April 15, l923. Mr. Leavitt will be remembered by a great many of our citizens as he was a native of Maine, having been born in Dexter in 1843, the son of Silas and Lovica Leavitt, and having lived in this vicinity for many years, both in his youth and, later on, in middle age. He was a Civil war veteran, having enlisted in Co. I, 31st Regiment, Maine Infantry, Volunteers, in which Company he was enrolled March 31, 1864, to serve for three years, or during the war, but was discharged in June, 1865 in consequence of injuries received in line of duty. He moved from Danforth, Maine, to St. Cloud, Fla., in the fall of 1917, where he has since made his home and many friends are filled with sorrow at his death which was not wholly unexpected as be had been very ill with an attack of influenza which left him unable to recuperate. He was married Nov. 5th, 1870, to Lillian A. Young of Corinna, whom he leaves to mourn his departure, together with a son, Albert A. Leavitt of Brodhead, Wisconsin, and a daughter, Mrs. J. E. Crocker, living at Vanceboro, Maine; one son, Guy, having preceded him to the World beyond. He was a kind husband and father, and a good friend and neighbor and many friends will mourn his death. He was a member of the D. L. Moody church of Chicago, but worked faithfully with any church whereever he happened to be. The ritual service of the G. A. R. was used at the funeral at the close of the sermon. "Taps are sounded, the soldier sleeps." The interment will be at the village cemetery at Corinna.
