Obituary
Edwin French Word was received here Tuesday by Hutchinson & Gates Co., undertakers that the body of Edwin French, formerly a resident of this town, will be sent here from Hampstead, N. H., arriving here Wednesday evening. Mr. French was 80 years of age. He was a member of Penobscot lodge, F. and A. M. of this town. A delegation of members of the lodge will meet the body and escort it to the receiving tomb at Mount Pleasant cemetery. (also in 3-22-1923, p.8) Edwin French The remains of Edwin French, a former resident of Dexter, were brought here for burial last Thursday night from Hampstead, N. H., where he died March 13th. Mr. French was born in Palmyra June 15th, 1843 and was a resident of Dexter for some 20 years before removing to New Hampshire. For some years he lived on a farm on the South Ridge and later in the village, on the lot now occupied by the Catholic church. He was a veteran of the Civil war, serving in Company K, 22d Regiment, Maine Volunteers. He married Helen M. Osborn of Corinna June 2, 1866 and moved to Dexter in 1888 and to Hampstead, N. H. in 1905. He was a man loved and respected by all who knew him. He leaves, besides the wife, a daughter, Mrs. J. W. Otis, Jr., formerly of Garland, now of Hampstead, and one son, Buel French of Haverhill, Mass.; two grandchildren, Lloyd O. Allen of Boston, Mass., and Mrs. Leona Allen Cook of Athens. He was a member of Penobscot lodge, F. & A. M., having been a Mason nearly 40 years. The remains were accompanied to this town by his son-in-law, Otis O. Allen of Waterville. (also in 3-22-1923, p.8)
