Obituary
Mrs. Mary C. Farrar This community was greatly saddened by the death of Mrs. Mary Farrar, widow of the late Charles Farrar, which occurred at her home, Nov. 14th. Although she had been in failing health for the last three years, she was able to be about the house until a week ago, when she suffered a shock, from which she never recovered. She was born in Monson 76 years ago, but passed the greater part of her life in this town. Mrs. Farrar was a woman of sterling character and her genial good nature and loving disposition won her many friends and her passing fills with sorrow the hearts of all who knew her. The deceased was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of this town, Martha Washington Rebekah Lodge and of the H. F. Safford Woman's Relief Corps, which she was very much interested in, and a very active member. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mattie Ellis, by whom she was most lovingly and tenderly cared for, and Mrs. Charles Damon, of Braintree, Mass., one son Ernest Farrar, of this town, two sisters, Mrs. Elvira Stone of West Garland and Mrs. Thomas Trainor, of Prince Edward Island; one brother, Alphonzo Leighton, of Willimantic, besides several grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the home, conducted by Rev. D. P. Pelley, pastor of the Methodist church, who spoke words of comfort to the bereaved family. The flowers were many and beautiful and showed in what high esteem she was held by her many friends. The bearers were Edwin Shepherd, L. C. Shepherd, W. D. Austin, Fred Gove, Wallace Swanton and Roy Thomas.
