Obituary
WALTER SCOTT 1851 - 1908 Walter Scott was the second son of Charles and Margaret (Hamilton) Scott and was born in Montpelier, Vermont, April 8, 1851. The family moved to Minnesota in his boyhood. He learned the Machinists' trade and held some important positions. On September 22, 1874 he married in Dexter, Sylvia, daughter of Curtis and Abigail (Jumper) Sturtevant and they lived in Minnesota. Sylvia Scott died while on a visit in Dexter April 24, 1881, leaving three children. Mr. Scott accepted a position in the Dustin Machine Shop and remained in Dexter. During the year he formed a copartnership with Norman H. Fay who was also working in the Dustin Shop. They rented a room of the Dustin's and began business as Fay & Scott. Within a few years he married his second wife, Miss Annie R. Patterson, daughter of John R. and Annie (Cameron) Patterson. The business of Fay & Scott prospered and in 1884 they purchased the long disused mill priviledge of F. W. Hill and erected a brick building, the nucleus of the present extensive plant. In 1897, on account of ill health, Mr. Scott sold out to his partner, but the business is still carried on under the original name. Machines built by Fay & Scott have gone to all parts of the world. Mr. Scott was a good citizen and highly respected. He was at one time chairman of the Dexter board of selectmen. He was a Mason. He served on the board of trustees of the Universalist parish for several years. He died in Alberta, Canada, June 20, 1908 and was buried in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
