Obituary
Alvin A. Eastman Alvin A. Eastman, well-known authority on matters relating to small fruit culture, passed away late Sunday evening at his home on Pleasant street after a short illness. Although Mr. Eastman has not been in the best of health for several years, many of his friends were unaware of his serious condition and to them his death comes as a shock. Mr. Eastman, who conducted a small fruit farm, was 77 years of age and was a native of Exeter. By trade he was an expert shoemaker and for a number of years conducted a shoe repairing shop in this town. Many years ago he became interested in the culture of small fruits and bought his place on Pleasant street. Study of fruits and their culture resulted in Mr. Eastman's experience in fruit growing being a success. So marked was his success and so wide his knowledge of fruit growing that he frequently contributed articles to well known journals on the subject of culture. He was also in demand as a lecturer on such subjects and was prominently connected with several societies of which the members are fruit growers. Mr. Eastman is survived by his widow, one daughter, Miss Marjorie Eastman of the faculty of Foxcroft Academy, Dover-Foxcroft, and by two sons, Arthur Eastman of Kineo Station and this town and Harry A. Eastman of Chino, Cal. Two brothers also survive, Charles Eastman of Exeter and William Eastman of Sonora, Cal. He was a man held in high esteem by his fellow townsmen and who enjoyed the acquaintances of a large circle of friends here and elsewhere. He was a prominent member of Dexter Grange in which he took great interest. Funeral services were held from the home Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock.
