MRS. ELLIE HURD Mrs. Ellie (Pettengill) Hurd, 82, died Monday night at her home on Prospect street, Dexter, after a short illness. Funeral services were conducted this afternoon at the Crosby funeral home by the Rev. Samuel A. Bowman, pastor of the Dexter Methodist Church. Bearers were four grandsons, Kenneth and William Hill, Ralph Hurd and Lloyd Stewart, all of this town. Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant cemetery. She was born in Ripley, June 6, 1867, daughter of Rufus and Ruth (Arno) Pettengill and was the last one of their family. Mrs. Hurd was born in a log cabin located on the farm now owned by Albert Folsom. Her father built a new home nearby to which they moved when she was a young girl. In 1887, she married William Hurd of Minneapolis, Minn. Prior to moving to Dexter about 24 years ago, they lived a short time in W. Corinth, at Dexter and on a farm in Ripley with her family. She was a member of Dexter Grange and held the silver and gold star certificates. She attended the Universalist Church, and for many years was a practical nurse. Surviving are two daughters. Mrs. Ruth Hill and Mrs. Donald Stewart, who made their home with their mother; one son, Roland, of Bangor; six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
