Obituary
Hold Funeral Services For Leroy A. Pennell Private funeral services for Leroy A. Pennell were conducted at the residence on Water street Saturday afternoon, Rev. John H. Miller, Pastor of the High Street Union Church, officiating. Bearers were Fred Lowell, Arthur Hanson, Col. Percy M. Gleason, retired, Arthur Strout, Rex Frost and Raymond Emerson. Interment was in the family lot in Riverside cemetery. Born in Palmyra, son of Enoch and Abbie (Robinson) Pennell, be attended Palmyra, schools, M. C. I., Pittsfield, and Shaw Business College in Portland. In 1904 he married Grace Witham of Waterville. They first lived in Waterville, where he was engaged in farming and the lumber business, later moving to North Clinton. After moving to Newport many years ago, he farmed here for a time, was a salesman for the New England Fertilizer Company and in late years was engaged in the real estate and insurance business. He serves as tax collector in Newport and was a former member of Old Hickory Lodge, IOOF, and Sebasticook Grange. He attended the High Street Union Church. Surviving are his widow; three daughters, Mrs. Madalene Gordon of Dexter, Mrs. Evelyn Ludwig of Columbus, O. and Mrs. Barbara Cheney of Newport; a son, Ancil E. Pennell of Newport; also four grandchildren and a cousin.
