Judge Arthur W. Stone Dies Early Today Arthur W. Stone, 80, former Judge of the Dexter Municipal Court, died early this morning at his Beech street home after a long illness. He was born in Lowell, Mass., Feb. 24, 1869, the son of Winslow F. and Mary (Fish) Stone. He came to Corinna at an early age, but later returned to Lowell, where he graduated from High School. After attending Amherst College for a time, he came to Dexter and studied law in the office of Thomas H. Pierce. He was admitted to the Penobscot County Bar and the following year to the Middlesex County Bar at Lowell, where he practiced law for three years. Returning to Dexter in 1901, he opened a law office in this town. In 1902 he was appointed Judge in the State of Maine. He was a member of the First Universalist Church of Dexter, past president of board of trustees, and at time of his death, secretary emeritus of the board. Active in all branches of Odd Fellowship, he was a Past Noble Grand of Plymouth Looge No. 65; District Deputy Grand Patriarch of Silver Lake Encampment, and Lt. Col. (R.) of Canton Dexter No.8. He was always interested in civic affairs, and had served on the school board. Judge and Mrs. Stone celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in June, 1945. Survivors are his wife, Elzora M., of this town; one daughter, Mrs. Veth Stone Hope; a granddaughter Joyce Stone Hope; a grandson, Gordon Hope, all of Elizabeth, N. J. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon, at the First Universalist church, Dexter. ARTHUR W. STONE Funeral services for Arthur W. Stone, retired judge of the Dexter Municipal Court were conducted Sunday afternoon at the First Universalist Church, Dexter, by the Rev. Stanley G. Spear of Beverly, Mass., a former pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev. T. A. Webb, present pastor. Bearers were John Chandler, Earl Crowell, Clarence Pierce and Frank Spruce.
