Obituary
L. B. Waldron Funeral services for Lafayette B. Waldron, prominent attorney and former judge of Dexter municipal court, were held Monday afternoon at the First Universalist church. Rev. Kenneth R. Hutchinson officiated and burial was at Mt. Pleasant cemetery. The bearers were, Judge A. W. Stone, P. A. Hasty, C. H. Crosby, W. E. Robinson, Nathan Daggett, and H. A. Blake. Mr. Waldron was born in Buckfield April 9, 1854, the son of James and Sarah Hanson Waldron. He was educated in the public schools of Buckfield and at Hebron Academy. He studied law in the office of his brother Frederick A. Waldron in Waterville, and later in the office of J. W. Muggridge in Concord, N. H. He was admitted to the bar in 1879 and opened his first law office in Dexter. Three years ago he was forced to give up his office because of ill health, but he has since given legal advice to those who solicited it at his home on Main street. He was judge of the Dexter municipal court at the time of the preliminary hearing of the famous Stane and Cromwell case. He served one term as representative to the Maine Legislature, and two terms as selectman. Mr. Waldron was a member of Penobscot lodge, F. and A. M., a charter member of Wassookeag Chapter, 0. E. S., and a member of St. John's Royal Arch chapter. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Gertrude Chase Waldron; two sons, James of Bartlett, N. H., and Richard, a junior at the University of Maine; a daughter, Mrs. William H. Schummrick of Derby, Conn.; three grandchildren, Robert Waldron, William Waldron Shummrick and Priscilla Schummrick; one brother, Wesley E. Waldron, and one sister, Mrs. Gertrude Bowen, both of Portland, and several nephews and nieces. Those attending the services from out of town were, Mr. and Mrs. William Schummrick and children of Derby, Conn., Mr. and Mrs. James Waldron of Bartlett, N. H., Richard Waldron of Orono, Mr. and Mrs. John Campbell of Clinton, Mrs. Charles Chase and son, Lawrence, Mrs. Adelia R. Waldron of Waterville, Judge and Mrs. William Waldron of Pittsfield, Mrs. Horace Priest of Lowell, Mr. and Mrs. Elledge Sawtell, Mrs. Gladys Heath of Shirley, Mrs. Leon Adams of Saco, Mrs. E. B. Tubbs and Miss Mildred MacLean of Portland, and Ivan N. Waldron of Worcester, Mass. Out of town callers at the Waldron home Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Harold M. Stone and grandson, Robert Waldron, of Belfast; Mr. and Mrs. Winthrop L. Gordon of Fairfield, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Sawtelle of Corinna.
