Obituary
Mary Leonard Lane It was with sadness and tender reminiscenses that the Dexter friends of Mary Leonard Lane learned of her death, which occurred at the Palmer Memorial hospital, Roxbury, Mass., Feb. 18, 1927. She loved her home town very much, and was so loyal to those among whom she grew up, that those same friends feel like paying a sincere, if slight, tribute to her memory. Mrs. Lane was born in Dexter, Nov. 4, 1877, the only daughter of David and Keziah Leonard. She attended the public schools of this town, graduating from the high school in the class of 1897. Her death makes the first break in this class, which numbered fifteen at graduation. The remaining classmates mourn the loss of one who was always true to them. She was baptized Aug, 14, 1892, and joined the Free Will Baptist church. In March, 1905, she became the wife of Leonard Lane, the ceremony being performed at Salem, Conn., by her uncle, Rev. Samuel B. Andrews. Of that marriage, four children were three boys and one girl. The latter died several years ago. The last years of Mrs. Lane's life were passed in Massachusetts, where she joined the Methodist Episcopal church of Brookline, of which she was a devoted member. Her last illness covered a year's time, during which she suffered much, but very patiently. The funeral was at three o'clock Sunday afternoon, Feb. 20th, at the Memorial chapel, Commonwealth avenue, Boston, and was conducted by her pastor, Rev. William R. Leslie. He spoke very touchingly of her earnest Christian life. The many beautiful flowers expressed better than words, the love and esteem in which she was held. Her body will be brought to Dexter for burial this spring. Some-where the day is longer, Some-Where the task is done; Some-where the heart is stronger, Some-where the guerdon won.
