Obituary
Joseph S. Arnold The death of Joseph Swanton Arnold occurred at his home, Saturday, Aug. 17th, following a long illness with heart disease. Mr. Arnold, whose age was 69 years, had been a resident of this town for many years and had a wide circle of friends who regret his passing. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Annie L. Arnold, one son, Harry A. Arnold, and two brothers, Frank B. Arnold, of Needham Heights, Mass., and John B. Arnold, of this town. The funeral was held from the home, Tuesday, Aug. 20th, Rev. William J. Metz of the First Universalist church officiating. The bearers were Jeptha Bane, Vernie Jewell, Moses Watson and Fred Wentworth. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery, Garland, where commital services were held. Among those from out of town attending the funeral were: Frank B. Arnold, of Needham Heights, Mass.; Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hammond of Monson; Mr. and Mrs. Forest Swanton of Portsmouth, N. H.; Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Tiplady and Leon F. Tiplady of East Corinth; Mrs. Maria Batchelder and Mrs. Nettie Batchelder of Garland and Mr. and Mrs. John Clark of West Upton, Mass. (8-29-1929, p.12) Funeral services for the late Joseph Arnold were held Tuesday afternoon at the home on the Newport road, Rev. J. W. Metz of the Universalist church officiating. Interment was in the Evergreen cemetery in Garland. The deceased was born in Dexter 69 years ago and has lived all his life here as a prominent farmer. He passed away Saturday, after a year's illness. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Annie, Arnold, by one son, Harry Arnold, and by two brothers, Frank B. Arnold, of Needham Heights, Mass., and John Arnold, of this town. (8-22-1929, p.8
