Obituary
George A. Patterson The death of George A. Patterson occurred at his home on Main street Tuesday night, after a long illness. He was the son of James and Betsey Richardson Patterson and was born in Lovell, Oxford county, Oct. 13th, 1842. He was the last of the family of fourteen children, the last brother, Andrew Patterson, dying at Mechanic Falls a few months ago, at the advanced age of ninety-seven. Mr. Patterson served in the First Maine Cavalry, Co. A. His health was greatly impaired and he has been practically an invalid since his war service, and for forty-two years he has been confined to his home. He joined the Masonic lodge at Bridgeton in 1866 and was later transferred to Penobscot Lodge of this town. In early life he joined the Free Baptist church of Dexter and was always an interested and loyal member. He married Maria O. Shepherd of San- gerville, who died about two years ago. Two children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Patterson, Eugene R. Patterson of Sabattus and Cora P., wife of Wm. E. Robinson of Dexter. There are two grandchildren, Bernice, wife of Harold McKechnie, of Sabattus, and Edward E. Robinson, of Dexter, and a great granddaughter, Barbara McKechnie, of Sebattus. Other near relatives are two nieces, Mrs. Nellie Sawyer of Mechanic Falls and Mrs. Myra Dunham, of Auburn. Mr. Patterson was a man of sterling character, having a keen mind and a pleasing personality, and won many friends, who were always a source of comfort to him through his long years of suffering and confinement. He was always patient and cheerful and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The family, who have so tenderly cared for him during the long years have the sympathy of all. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, and will be conducted by Rev. John L. Saunders of the Free Baptist church.
