Obituary
Mrs. Grace Eldridge Dexter friends of Mrs. Grace Ayer Eldridge of Ellsworth were shocked to hear of her death Wednesday of last week, after an illness of only two weeks from pneumonia. The deceased was born in Dexter 71 years ago and until her marriage lived with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Edwin A. Ayer, in the house where Mrs. E.G. Ayer now lives. After her marriage to the late John P. Eldridge of Dexter, they went to Ellsworth, where Mr. Eldridge entered the plumbing business in which he continued until the time of his death, nine or ten years ago. One daughter, Mrs. Bernice Downey, of Ellsworth, survives her, and three grandchildren, Mary, John and Grace Downey. She was connected with the Universalist church while in Dexter and has always retained a keen interest in its welfare, though attending the Unitarian church of Ellsworth. She was a woman much beloved and respected by all who knew her. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Ayer on upper Main street. Rev. Tracy M. Pullman officiated and the bearers were: Glen C. Ayer, W. B. Ayer, Charles Brewster and L. C. Shepherd, all of Dexter, relatives of the deceased. There was a profuse and beautiful offering of flowers. Interment was in the family lot at Mt. Pleasant cemetery. Among the out-of-town attendants at the services were: Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Downey and daughter, Mary, Miss Margaret Downey, Mrs. A. C. Hagerthy and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Goodwin, all of Elhworth; Mrs. Joseph Tardy, Mrs. Bertha Campbell and Mrs. Josephine Hughes of Dover-Fox- croft; Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Thomas of Sangerville and Miss Helen Eldridge of Bangor.
