The Mountain family was among the earlier families to come from Canada and settle in Dexter. They were hard working and ambitious And they made good. The family was large and sometimes the going was rough but they stuck to it. James attended the, grade schools of Dexter and then learned the tinman's trade and for a time was in business for himself in a store on the north side of Main Street. When plumbing was added to the trade of tinman and stove dealer in Dexter, the work was too hard for a man of his slender build and he sold out his business and opened a fruit and confectionary business on Main street. Here he served the public for thirty years and won the respect of his many friends by his fair dealings. Mr. Mountain married Mary Pomroy and they had three daughters and one son. James Mountain died in Dexter, Maine, July 11, 1928, in his sixty-fifth year, regretted by many warm friends. The Eastern Gazette 1-11-1945, p.3 (LHC)
