Obituary	Mrs. John Briggs The many friends of Mrs. Elizabeth Briggs, wife of John Briggs of this town, will regret to learn of her death which occurred at the Plummer Memorial hospital last Thursday, after an illness of several weeks. The deceased was born in Charleston, 59 years ago, but for the past 33 years has been a resident of this town. She was a member of Dexter Grange and of the Free Will Baptist church. Besides her husband, John Briggs, she is survived by one son, Maurice Briggs, of this town, and three grandchildren, Robert, Muriel and Arthur Briggs, one sister, Mrs. Sarah Morton, of Garland. The family has the sincere sympathy of a large circle of friends in their bereavement. Funeral services were held at the Home Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock with Rev. J. L. Sanders of the Free Baptist church officiating. The Eastern Gazette 11-17-1927, p.5 Mrs. John F. Briggs The death of Mrs. John F. Briggs, which occurred at Plummer Memorial hospital Thursday morning, Nov. 10, brought sadness to the hearts of many. Mrs. Briggs was a woman beloved by a large circle of friends, all of whom felt a personal loss upon learning of her death. Elizabeth Smith Briggs was born in Charleston, May 4, 1868, and spent her early life in that town. In 1887 she married John F. Briggs of Dover, and after a few years spent in Dover and in Marshfield, Mass., they bought the farm upon which they have lived for the past 34 years. Two children were born in that home, Maurice F., who lives with his family upon the adjoining farm, and Velma Briggs Covel, who died nine years ago. Mrs. Briggs was a woman of true Christian character, a member of the Dexter Free Baptist church and an earnest worker for its welfare. She was also a member of Dexter grange. Seldom is a person as much respected and beloved as was Mrs. Briggs. She was always ready to help someone, and her loving kindness, sympathy and unselfishness, endeared her to every one who knew her. Although everything possible was done for her by her loved ones the last of her life was filled with intense suffering, yet she bore it with the same courage, cheerfulness and thoughtfulness of others that had characterized her whole life. Besides her husband, John F. Briggs Mrs. Briggs is survived by her son, Maurice F. Briggs, three grandchildren, Robert W., Muriel V., and John Arthur Briggs, a sister, Mrs. Sarah Morton, of Garland, five nieces, Mrs. Elizabeth Jones, of Dover, N. H., Mrs. Helen Powers, of Bangor, Miss Geneva Morton, of Garland, Mrs. Georgia Cummer, of Memphis, Tenn., and Mrs. Edith Hand, who resides in the West, also one nephew, Horace Smith, of Spokane, Wash. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon, Nov. 13th, Rev. J. L. Sanders of the Free Baptist church spoke comforting words to the sorrowing relatives, friends and neighbors, who filled the house. There was a profusion of beautiful floral tributes. The bearers were Albert L. Davis, William E. Robinson, George I. Additon and Charles H. Crawford. Interment was in the family lot in Mt. Pleasant cemetery. The Eastern Gazette 11-24-1927, p.5
